DIY Creative Candles

Our feature project, above and below, is a DIY Autumn mason jar candle that is cheap and easy to make. LOVE the glow through the fall leaves!

From ‘Oleander and Palm’ these DIY birch candles are a natural look that can be used year round, but I can see them looking especially amazing around the holidays. DIP-DYED FROSTED TUMBLERS

Materials: Glass tumblers, rubbing alcohol, painter’s tape, a foam pouncer, Translucent Frost Glass Paint (we used Beach Glass!)

What to do:
1. Using rubbing alcohol and a paper towel or cotton ball, clean the tumblers and let dry.
2. Take the painter’s tape in manageable sections and tape off where you want your paint to go.
3. Use your finger nail or a credit card to press out all air bubbles and seal the tape onto the tumblers.
4. Dip the foam pouncer in the frost paint and begin painting the tumblers using an up and down motion (don’t worry if it doesn’t look perfect – a second coat will fix any mistakes!).
5. Let dry two hours before applying a second coat.
6. Let second coat dry overnight and then peel off the painter’s tape!
7. Follow the directions on  for how to set the paint (We air cure for 21 days, but you can also oven bake them!).
8. Have a party!

Use an over-the-door shoe organizer in the shower.

If you start having a crazy number of products line your tub, give this a try. Make sure to pick a mesh organizer that allows water to drain from the pockets

2. Hang products from a curtain rod.

Not only is this another amazing idea for keeping things organized in the shower, it also puts the products right at your fingertips. Bending over? Please

3. Prevent rust with nail polish.

You know that nasty ring your aluminum shaving cream can leaves on your tub? Here's a solution: Paint the bottom of the can with a clear nail polish to prevent the can from leaving rusty residue. 

4. Clean your shower with grapefruit.

That's right! Cut a grapefruit in half and use it to clean your showerhead and knob. The acid from the fruit gets the job done, plus it leaves a citrusy smell. 

5. Keep products on a lanyard when traveling.

This is the perfect solution for keeping your mini travel bottles organized and accessible.   

6. Dry hair with a T-shirt.

Wet strands are actually more susceptible to breaking than dry hair. Using a cotton T-shirt to dry hair instead of a towel is brilliant, because a T-shirt is much gentler. 

7. Soak your showerhead in vinegar.

When it's time to give your shower a deep clean, fill a plastic bag with vinegar and tie it around your showerhead, leaving it there overnight. You'll wake up to find your showerhead squeaky clean. 

8. DIY a shower cap.

This may not be a long-term solution for keeping hair dry in the shower, but when you're in a pinch, this totally works. Simply tie a plastic shopping bag around your head and secure it with two knots. 

9. Decorate with ribbons instead of curtain hooks.

Instantly add an adorable twist to your bathroom decor without spending a ton of money by using ribbons to hang your shower curtain. 

10. Remove clothing wrinkles while showering.

This hack is an oldie but a goody, especially when you're short on time in the morning. Hang wrinkled clothing in the bathroom while you shower to let the steam work its magic on the wrinkles.  

~ DIY Rag Rug Bag ~

 

Supplies:
Rag rug (this rug is similar to the one I used)
1 yard of braided fabric, cut into two 16″ pieces (I found this at the ribbon section of Joann’s and can be purchased by the yard)
Scissor
Coordinating thread
Sewing machine
Fabric pencil
Ruler
Embroidery floss (optional)

Directions:

1. Fold the rug in half width-wise, and sew along the entire length of both sides.

                   

2. Box the corners by pinching each corner with the right sides together and aligning the sides seams with the bottom seam. With a fabric pencil and ruler mark a line perpendicular to the side seam that is about 1 1/2″ from the corner and 3″ long. Pin and sew along that line. Repeat for the opposite corner.

 3. Turn the bag right side out and decide the placement for the handles. I placed mine about 5″ in from each side and 1″ down from the top. Fold each handle end in about 1/2″, pin in place, the folded end of the bag handle facing the inside fabric of the bag (the handle will twist as pictured). Machine stitch the handles to the bag using 2 horizontal stitches, 1/4″ and 3/4″ from the folded edge. Make sure to backstitch to secure.

4. Optional: Using embroidery floss, make some small tassels and tie around one of the handles. In total, I think the project took me less than 30 minutes. 

~ DIY Phone Charger ~

                

I don’t know about you but I’m finding my phone battery runs down fast during the day. I think it’s probably the fact that I play Amazon music all day while I’m working, and possibly that I’m checking Instagram, emails and more all day. Oh and that doesn’t even count actual phone-type stuff like calls!

So I’m needing to charge it lots and I’m excited about this new easy DIY Phone Charger Holder! It keeps my phone up off the counter and all tidy, plus I can move it around to whatever room I’m in – super easy! I hate to confess the number of times I’ve tripped over my phone cord and flipped my phone onto the floor. We’ll keep that our little secret though k?

It doesn’t take long to sew this up, you can make one up in about 30 minutes! And don’t be nervous about the little grommet at the top – that couldn’t be easier to install. You don’t need any tools!

Note: I don’t really recommend hanging this for any length of time from your charger, you don’t want to put a ton of weight on that. I keep a Command Hook next to my outlet and hang it there – it’s super convenient and doesn’t put any stress on your charger or the outlet!

This sweet little pocket all dressed up with a bow is the perfect size for holding your phone, tucking in your charging cord, and even a set of earbuds! Wouldn’t that be a fun gift? A cute little wall charger holder and a matching set of earbuds!

Lets get started!!

Materials:

• Fabric
  • Main Front and Back – 2 pieces 10 1/2″ x 6″
  • Pocket Front and Back – 2 pieces 7″ wide at top and 6″ wide at the bottom, and 5″ tall
• Fusible Fleece – one piece 10 1/2″ x 6 and one piece 7″ x 5″
• Ribbon – 10″
• Pom Pom Trim – 30″
• 1 Plastic Curtain Grommet

To start, cut out all your fabric and fleece pieces. Iron the fleece to the back side of one of the pocket pieces and one of the main pieces. I like to fuse it to the pieces that will be the front, it keeps everything looking nice.

Sew the two pocket pieces together just along the top edge, with right sides together and a 1/4″ seam allowances. Fold the pieces so the right sides are out and press.

Sew the ribbon 3/8″ down from the top edge, along both sides of the ribbon. Form a little bow with the extra ribbon and hand sew the bow in place.

Place the front pocket on the front main piece (the one with the fusible fleece on the back side) and line up the bottom edge and the sides. Sew the sides and bottom down with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Because the top of the pocket is wider, the pocket will stick out from the main piece just a bit.

Use a spool of thread as a guide and trim all four corners so they are rounded. Sew your pom pom trim around the edge of the holder, 3/8″ in from the edge. Make sure the pom poms are pointing towards the center. Overlap the trim at the bottom and point it towards the edge, you’ll sew over this but it makes a nice tidy look once you turn everything right side out.

Pin the back main piece to the front main piece so that the right sides are together. Sew around the sides and leave an 2″ opening on one side, above the pocket. Turn the holder right side out through the opening. Press everything, then hand sew the opening closed.

Put the plastic curtain grommet in place, following the instructions on the package.

And that’s it! You have a super cute place for your phone while it’s charging – and a super safe place too!
